Climatology Meteorology and Geophysics Agency give Tsunami warning to 23 Countries

 

Climatology Meteorology and Geophysics Agency is believed to be one of the three countries in the region are believed to be the Indian Ocean Tsunami Regional Service Provider-RTSP). This was disclosed by Head of the Center for Earthquake and Tsunami BMKG.
As a member of RTSP, BMKG responsibility to provide tsunami early warning to the 23 countries of the Indian Ocean region, including Bangladesh, Yemen, Thailand, Timor Leste, Myanmar, Singapore, and Malaysia. Together with Indonesia, other countries are also appointed Australia and India.
"This is a challenge for Indonesia because we have to give an early warning system for other countries. Going forward, we must strive to be able to provide good information and accurate," explains Kompas.com Suhardjono when contacted on Wednesday (12/11/2011).
With the appointment of Indonesia as RTSP, then the tsunami early warning facility in BMKG currently has two functions. Aside from being a regional early warning system for Indonesia, the device is also useful as an early warning system of the Indian Ocean region.
Suhardjono explains, operational RTSP was launched today in conjunction with doing IOWave 2011 Exercise, tsunami early warning tests are conducted under the auspices of the International Intergovermental Commission of UNESCO. In IOWave 2011 Exercise, conducted trials RTSP roles and functions of the state, see the readiness of the countries in the Indian Ocean region to receive a warning message and test the operational procedures RTSP and warning centers in each country.
When the test today, BMKG sends warning to the scenario December 26, 2004 tsunami triggered by a magnitude 9.2 earthquake off the west coast of Sumatra. Simulated tsunami waves across the Indian Ocean within 12 hours hit the coast of South Africa.
Simulations today also followed up with a Tabletop Exercise national level by the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB in Aceh, Padang and Bantul. BMKG sending alerts and receiving institutions follow appropriate procedures.
Suhardjono explained that with the commencement of the trial today, RTSP officially been operating. "In the year ahead will continue to be monitored and evaluated its implementation," he said.
