Slovak President Ivan Gasparovic asserted his country would not participate as one of where to place anti-missile defense system in Europe missile shield program was initiated by the United States and North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Associated with U.S. plans to hold anti-missile defense system equipment throughout Europe, Gasparovic said that Slovakia is a member of NATO and the respect and support any decision made defense pact. However, it did not make the Slovaks are willing to host one of the placement of such anti-missile system.
"Slovakia is a NATO member countries. In NATO, we apply the (system) shared decision-making, and Slovakia supports all efforts of NATO. However, in terms of placement of equipment (anti-missile) anything in any location, Slovakia will not participate. The plan is not like that. However, Slovakia remains a supporter of any NATO plan, "said Gasparovic, who spoke to reporters through an intermediary translator English.
Gasparovic added that negotiations between the parties related to NATO and the Russian side plans of deploying anti-missile defense system is very important in ensuring world peace in the future. "NATO is trying to find the best consensus between NATO and Russia because, once consensus is reached, there will be a guarantee of world peace in the future," said Gasparovic.
Russia objected to the plan of placing anti-missile system is due to assume the defense system is aimed against Russia. While NATO insists, anti-missile defense system is not aimed at Russia, but from the threats the country "rogue" who has the ability to make medium-range ballistic missiles, such as Iran and North Korea.
Some countries in central and eastern Europe, like Romania, Poland, and Turkey, have expressed willingness, both the location and placement of anti-missile missile systems the U.S. radar system, as part of a European missile shield program.
